Arthur Rutledge appears in The Bond in the Boot as a suspect in the death of CIA analyst Greg Dorit when he is discovered in the boot of an Aston Martin. However, the team's subsequent investigation revealed that Dorit was actually killed by Russian agents when he tried to intercept the theft of a memory stick containing unspecified but vital information. After the investigation revealed the lengths that Dorit had gone to in order to recover the stolen data, including being tortured to such a degree that even trained agents would have been expected to give in, Rutledge convinced the government to make an exception to traditional procedure and give Dorit a memorial star on the wall commemorating CIA agents who had died in the line of duty, despite the fact that normally only field agents were permitted such an honor.
