The Jeffersonian Institute is a governmental institution, and the home to Medico-Legal Lab, which consists of a team of forensic specialists that frequently consult with FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth.
History[]
Pre-Series[]
Hodgins discovered that the Jeffersonian is a Masonic construction, evidenced by a ladder hidden behind a fake wall in the janitor's closet that leads to the downstairs storage area filled with multiple museum artifacts.
In 1938, the director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, wrote to the then curator of the Jeffersonian Institute, Professor Daniel Payne, to aid in the evaluation of specimens who were thought to be irrefutably human. Result was something looking like an ape. Despite this early disagreement, the FBI and the Jeffersonian have forged a mutually beneficial, if somewhat tense, relationship which survives to this day.

Gormogon Vault[]
- See: The Gormogon Vault
Gormogon Vault was secret underground shrine to the Gormogon Order that was originally cut into the foundation of an abandoned bank called Capital Mutual Bank on the Anacostia River which was in the process of being re-preserved as a historical site by the DC Building Conservatory. The entire Vault was moved to the basement of the Jeffersonian Institute, by the request of Dr. Temperance Brennan, so that it's contents could be cataloged and studied. The Gormogon Vault is still currently in the basement of the Jeffersonian Institution.
Trivia[]
- It has been noted as an allusion to the real-life Smithsonian Institution[1].
- In reality, the building shown is the Dr. Theodore T. Alexander, Jr. Science Center School at 3737 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA.
- The external shots are of the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles and the Wallis Annenberg Building at the University of Southern California.
- In later seasons interns without Doctorates in Forensic Anthropology wore gray lab coats and interns with Forensic Anthropology Doctorates wore blue coats. Despite the fact that Zack wore a blue coat during his entire time at the Jeffersonian even before having his doctorate. Also interns who have doctorates in other fields also wear gray.
