Katheryn Winnick (born December 17, 1977) is a Canadian actress. She portrays Hannah Burley in Bones.
Biography[]
Winnick was born in Canada, and is of Ukrainian descent. As a child Katheryn spoke exclusively in Ukrainian, learning English only for the first class. She started practicing martial arts at the age of 7 and received her first black belt at the age of 13. She has three siblings, Markjan Winnick who is an actor, Adam Winnick who is an army and Daria Winnick. She completed her graduation from York University in Toronto with a major in Kinesiology.
After that, she studied acting at the William Esper Studio in New York City.
She was cast in Bones in 2010 as the character Hannah Burley.[1]
Winnick earned her first black belt at the young age of 13, six years after she started training. ITF Taekwondo is the go-to passion for Winnick. She also established three martial art schools in the discipline by the age of 21. As a Kinesiology degree holder, Winnick taught martial arts to fellow actors while emphasizing the need for women to know self-defense.

Katheryn Winnic is a Canadian film and television actress, famous for her roles in the film Amusement (2008) and in the television series Bones (2010), A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2012) and Vikings (2013). In 2013 she starred in the comedy The Art of the Steal, with Kurt Russell and Matt Dillon.
Winnick was born in Etobicoke, Ontario and is of Ukrainian descent. She was raised speaking Ukrainian, and did not start speaking English until the age of eight. She began practicing martial arts at the age of seven, and earned her black belt at thirteen. By the age of 21, she owned three martial arts schools.
Winnick has appeared in several films, including Fisher Stevens' Stand Up Guys, Tom Dey's Failure to Launch, Ed Zwick's Love and Other Drugs, and Robert Luketic's Killers. She also made appearances in several television productions, such as House M.D. (episode "One Day, One Room"), The Glades, Bones, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, CSI, CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds and Nikita. In the FOX drama series Bones, she plays Hannah Burley, a war correspondent assigned to cover the Afghan War who falls in love with the main character, Seeley Booth.
Winnick co-starred with Paul Giamatti in the comedy-drama Cold Souls, which had its world premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2011 she was invited to participate in the spy series Nikita, on The CW, in which she played Kelly, a tough ex-partner of the main character.
In 2013 she starred in Roman Coppola's A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, in which she played Charlie Sheen's ex-girlfriend, and appeared in the comedy The Art of the Steal, playing Kurt Russell's girlfriend. She also stars in History's series Vikings, playing Lagertha, a legendary figure in Viking history.
She speaks English, Ukrainian, French, Russian,and Italian.[2]
She is currently dating businessman Michael Persall.
