Sal is a sanitation worker. He is fictionalized character, who is loosely based on, named after, and played by the real-life improvisational and stand-up comedian, actor, and producer Salvatore Vulcano.
Sal is a sanitation worker, who has short and well-maintained black hair, dark green eyes, a freckle on his right eye, a beard, and flat feet. Sal is always a sweet guy and is proper friend material because he is a really nice, polite, and respectful guy who is a big softie with a heart of gold, has a habit of apologizing a lot, and has neurotic tendencies, multiple phobias, and a timid attitude. He is also a funny jokester who has a devious and good-natured sense of humor.
One day, Sal and Murray stop to survey a bag of trash a raccoon is scavenging, so they decide to run over the bag with their truck, but realize a bunch of bones and tissue are now stuck in the bristles. When they open it up, they discover the shredded body of a U.S. Senator inside. Sal stares at the scene in mute shock with his hand over his mouth as he is absolutely shocked and horrified at the sight and realizes that it is a very serious crime scene, and not a practical joke that Joe and Q have put him up to. However, Murr thinks otherwise and then taints the crime scene by putting one of the fingers of his dirty glove in the blood, puts it against his mouth, then licks it and says that it tastes like metal. Murr's actions causes Sal to make hurling noises and actually vomit.
